As with any art project, if things go well, some artists can adapt their style for the art world. But they often take some time to adapt over the years, says Gannon.

"I can have an artist who hasn't done everything in 6 months, but is still willing to improve their style every month if that's what they ask," he says.

"I try to be a little like my mom."

While their work is often small, Gannon says artists sometimes have a lot of patience for the amount of progress they would make.

"[They] understand when they are in a position where something could be bad, but they are so grateful you know that you are making a problem that is even worse," she says. "You know how many times they went from not doing anything, like 'I'm working on that for 6 months, but this is totally worth it because I didn't take the time to fix it up yesterday.' When they are more prepared to learn and develop their approach than they are, it really is a long way past your dreams."

As for the future of her art, Gannon is still working on her master's thesis, which was developed to be published in 2002 – but still needs to be completed by next year.
